Ruby Mardi's Jewelry

Is all your jewelry made by hand?

Yes, all the jewelry sold at Ruby Mardi is handmade, nothing is mass-produced and most of our jewelry is one-of-a-kind.

One single piece of jewelry is not entirely done by the same artisan, fine jewelry is a team effort in which everyone has their own specialty, from the designer to the gem-setter.

Rest assured that our jewelry meets the highest quality standards and rivals the products of the finest jewelry houses.

Do you also offer diamond rings?

Yes, we do!

We've made some impressive bespoke diamond jewelry.

If our offer is limited on the website, please note that we offer a diamond brokerage service and can offer all possible models at competitive prices.

You'll be asked to choose your diamond(s) before production, an exciting step in jewelry production!

We work with lab grown diamonds as well as natural diamonds.

Don't hesitate to make an appointment to discuss this further.

Is all your jewelry in gold?

Most of our jewels are set in gold.

It is the most popular metal for fine jewelry, standing the test of time and easily able to be reworked.

Some jewels are made of platinum, a white metal prized for fine jewelry.

We also offer a small selection of silver jewelry, handcrafted by ourseleves and by artists we love.

What's the difference between 10k, 14k and 18k gold?

18k gold is 75% purity level, 14k is 58.3% purity level, and 10k is 41.7% purity level.

As you can see, the higher the karat, the more pure gold comprises the metal.

Anything other than 24k is mixed with metals such as copper, nickel, and silver to create an alloy.

To learn more on this topic, please consult our blog post on gold karats.

How should I take care of my jewelry?

Keep in mind that jewelry is not fragile, but still delicate.

Although we will deliver jewelry made to last, it is important to take care of your jewelry and avoid subjecting it to certain situations.

Actions to avoid:
- Lifting heavy weights while wearing your rings: risk of deforming the ring and weakening the claws supporting the gemstones.

- Playing high-impact sports (tennis, golf) with your rings: risk of deforming the ring and losing stones.

- Putting your fingers on the gems to put on your rings: grease deposits on the stones (taking away their shine) and pressure on the prongs.

- Subjecting jewelry to dust, sand or extreme temperature variations (gardening, renovation, not wearing gloves in the cold): risk of scratching gemstones, removing brilliance and creating weaknesses in the stones.

Please also note that certain precious stones are fragile and can fracture following impact (opals, quartz, etc.). We cannot be held responsible in such a case.

To clean your jewelry, you can use warm, soapy water and a soft cloth.

You can also buy yourself an ultrasonic machine, if the gemstones in your jewels are suitable for that kind of cleaning. That includes diamonds and most of sapphires, rubies and quartz.

What guarantee do you offer?

We offer excellent after-sales service and unique attention to detail.

We are committed to delivering quality jewellery handcrafted by skilled and talented artisans. They are designed to last a lifetime, if well cared for and not subjected to violent shocks.

Ruby Mardi guarantees its jewelry for one year against manufacturing defects. These usually occur within the first three months of the jewel's life.

Engagement Rings

What gemstones are suitable for an engagement ring?

The best choice of gemstone for an engagement ring will always remain the diamond, for the simple reason that it is the gemstone with the highest hardness (10 on the Mohs scale).

Sapphire and ruby follow diamond in the hardness scale (with a score of 9), which also makes them durable and appropriate choices. That's one of the reasons we're so fond of sapphires at Ruby Mardi!

Some other gemstones can also be used for engagement rings, such as zircon, tourmaline, emerald, aquamarine, spinel or garnet, but it's important to remember that these are delicate stones.

If your ring doesn't receive any violent knocks throughout its lifetime, and if you take good care of it, it will stand the test of time without any problems, and you can even bequeath it as an heirloom.

If you're a clumsy person with a tendency to bump into things, diamonds are still the wisest choice ;)

I'd like to be involved in choosing my engagement ring. Is this possible?

These days, couples are increasingly shopping together for an engagement ring. It's a piece of jewelry that you'll wear for the rest of your life, and it should look just like you!

If you don't want to go shopping with your partner, so as not to spoil the surprise, we suggest you point him or her in the direction of the ring styles you like.

Colored stones or diamonds? What colors? Delicate ring or flashy design? Solitaire ring or more complex design?

How will my ring be delivered?

You'll receive your ring in a luxurious pink velvet box.

If you're not found of our brand color, don't worry, we have several box options.

What if I propose and she/he doesn't like the ring?

We have a 7 days refund / exchange policy, but keep in mind that the ring must come back in its original mint condition.

If the ring has been custom-made for you, we are unfortunately unable to issue a refund or exchange. If you choose to have a ring custom made, we suggest that you involve your partner if you have any doubts about the choices you are going to make concerning the ring.

Our Community of Jewelry Artists

Do you only sell your own brand?

No! The whole idea behind Ruby Mardi is to build a community of independent jewellers.

Ruby Mardi has is own jewelry brand and offers custom jewelry services, but we also represent many talented jewelry artists.

How do you choose the artists you represent?

We work with independent artists who make unique pieces and have their own artistic style.

We choose them not only for their talent, but also for the attention they pay to the provenance of their raw materials. The jewelers we work with give preference to gemstones whose origins are known and conflict-free, as well as to recycled gold.

Where are the artists from?

Everyone is located somewhere in Canada, but of course they all have their own specific stories and origins.

Our jewellers have roots in Ireland, Portugal, Russia, France, Switzerland, Peru, Italy, South Asia, Ukraine, and more!

Their work is inspired by their experiences and cultural backgrounds, so their styles are all rich and unique!

Can I have a custom ring made by one of your artists?

Probably yes. It will depend on the artist and the time of year.

Don't hesitate to write to us for more details.

Be aware that designers work faster with their retailers than with individuals, so you'll get faster service if you go through Ruby Mardi to reach one of the artists we represent.

Custom Jewelry

Can you reproduce a jewelry piece?

We can certainly reproduce a lost piece of jewelry if you can describe it well, and we can also make jewelry according to inspirations/photos that you can show us.

How long does it take to work on a custom jewel?

It depends on several factors, but you can expect to receive your jewelry from 10 days to 3 weeks after we agreed on the final design.

The creation stage itself varies greatly from one piece of jewelry to another.

We have another FAQ section dedicated only to custom jewelry that we invite you to consult.

Do you work with other metals than gold?

We do work with platinum as well.

We normally don't do custom designs using silver, but we'd be happy to evaluate your request.

Can I meet the designer?

Of course!

The design of a jewelry piece is a collaboration, and you'll have direct access to your jewelry designer.

How much does it costs?

The price of a bespoke creation includes the cost of the metal and gemstones, as well as the cost of our creative work and the hand-crafting of your jewel.

The overall price will depend not only on the quantity/type of metal and choice of gemstones, but also on the technical complexity of the jewel and the creative research involved.

We cannot provide a quote without first meeting you, but we can normally adapt our offer to your budget.

The first consultation is free of charge, and lasts about 30 minutes. You can book it here.

Finger Size

I want to buy online but I don't know my finger size. How do I proceed?

No worries, we have 2 tools for you as well as some tips:

Tool 1. Print this document to scale and find a ring that is of the right size. Once you've printed the sheet, superimpose the ring on it and determine the right size.

There are also many mobile applications called "Ring Sizer" that allow you to quickly determine the size of an existing ring.

Tool 2. You can order an actual ring sizer that will help you determine easily the right size.

Tips:

- A ring should fit comfortably on your finger, tight enough so that it won’t fall off, but loose enough to slide over your knuckle with a little push and pull.

- The "perfect fit" doesn't exist. Finger size often fluctuates from morning to night, depending on the season, the temperature and throughout life. It's normal for jewelry to be a little tight one day and a little loose the next.

What are the average sizes?

Each person is unique, but if we were to establish categories and average sizes, it would look like this:

- Women's hands: small size 3.5 to 5.5 / medium size 5.5 to 7 / large size 7 to 8.50.

- Men's hands: small size 7 to 8.75 / medium size 9 to 11 / large size 11 and up

What if I've got the wrong size?

Gold jewels, especially those without stones on the band, are normally adjustable and it will be possible to adjust the size after the jewel has been offered. Your local jeweller should be able to make that adjustment, and this procedure is normally not expensive, unless you got it really wrong! (ex. a size 8 instead of 4).

If you have any question regarding this before buying, please reach us! We'd be happy to assist you.

Ruby Mardi offers the first resizing before shipment of the ring, but we can't offer to resize it a second time due to the shipping costs that would result from it. But again don't worry, most resizing jobs can be handled by your local jeweller.

If you're located in Montreal, we'll be happy to take care of it for a small fee.

I don’t see my ring size online. What should I do?

Always contact us in doubt!

The answer will depend on the specific ring. Maybe it is not resizable in your size, maybe it needs to be made to order, or maybe we forgot to list your size!

Each and every product sheet is done by a human and can contain mistakes ;)

Order

I'm reluctant to order a piece of jewelry online as I can't see the product clearly.

We're here to make the shopping experience easy! If you don't see an aspect of the jewelry on one of our product sheets, we'll be happy to show you more photos and/or videos.

We can also schedule a video call with you to show you the jewelry in person.

Please reach out!

Can I return the jewelry if I don't like it?

It depends on the jewel.

Please refer to our complete refund & exchange policy

Again, don't hesitate to ask us for more photos or videos if you'd like to see a jewel in more detail.

We're here to help!

What if I receive the wrong product?

That won't happen!

Ruby Mardi is a human-scale company, and your order will be handled with heart and enthusiasm by our team!

Since we mainly sell one-of-a-kind jewelry, it would be very surprising if you received the wrong piece.

Rest assured that in the event of an error, it will be rectified as quickly as possible.

Do you offer exchanges for faulty items?

Once again, Ruby Mardi is a human-scale company, and we take the time to carefully inspect the jewelry before shipping.

They are packaged in such a way as to ensure that they are not damaged in transit.

However, should such a situation arise, please send us photos of the packaging and the damaged item. We will take care of the situation.

How fast will my jewel ship?

Again, it depends.

Ready-to-ship jewels will ship in 48 hours, from Tuesday to Saturday.

If your jewel needs a resizing, it might take up to 3 weeks before we are able to ship it.

For our silver rings, the size needed might not be in stock and could be produced specifically for you. In such a case, it could take up to 2 weeks before we ship it to you.

You'll find details on each product sheet, but please reach out if you'd like confirmation from us of the time of shipping of a specific item.

How can I cancel my order?

There is no way to cancel an order via our website as we normally don't accept cancellations.

Please contact us if you need to do so, and we'll evaluate your request.
